Tooling Specialist
Job Summary:
The Machinist in the Reliability Department is tasked with supporting both new and existing products, experimental manufacturing, and enhancing manufacturing processes. This involves fabricating and contributing to the design of various assembly fixtures and tools. The role also encompasses the repair of existing assembly fixtures through the machining of replacement parts to ensure minimal unscheduled equipment downtime. Additionally, the incumbent will play a vital role in metal prototyping for concept designs and contribute to the repair, modification, and maintenance of Injection Molding tooling.
Job Details:
- Design, machine, and assemble components necessary for constructing assembly/test fixtures for new products at Kripflow.
- Machine replacement components required for repairing damaged or broken machines and assembly fixtures.
- Provide support for tooling required in experimental production and tooling for new products.
- Contribute to achieving the department's goal of zero unscheduled equipment downtime.
- Collaborate with Process Engineers and assembly floor personnel to address assembly fixture issues, thereby reducing defect rates and enhancing production efficiencies.
- Actively participate in daily shift meetings, sharing information on previous work, planned tasks, and lessons learned.
- Develop, implement, perform, and maintain preventative maintenance and predictive maintenance procedures for tooling and fixtures to detect early signs of failure.
- Assist in fabricating process engineering prototype parts for manufacturing.
- Support Engineering and Machine Shop by participating in programming and machining prototype parts.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of and dedication to safety protocols within the Reliability Department and Kripflow. This includes conducting risk management assessments before commencing maintenance tasks.
- Collaborate with the Safety Manager and Reliability Manager to address any safety concerns not already documented and maintain a safety-focused approach at all times.

Required Skills & Abilities:
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Safely reach, stretch, bend, and lift parts and products from a standing position, and load them into assigned machines.
- Effective work on, stand on, and walk about a concrete factory floor for 10+ hours per day.
- Must be able to wear steel-toe safety shoes, safety glasses, and other PPE equipment as required for work function.
Working Conditions:
- Primary: 1st shift in a temperature-controlled factory environment, either at a machine, a desk, or walking the shop floor.
- Secondary, and as needed: Warehouse work where temperature is not controlled.
Experience:
Requirements:
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and engineering design prints.
- Minimum of five years of experience in setting up and operating conventional mills and lathes.
- Minimum of five years of experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, specializing in tooling and fixture fabrication.
- Ability to select suitable materials for tooling and fixturing designs to ensure the desired design outcome.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with the team, customers, and management.
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment.
- Well-developed problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing demands.
- Capability to manage multiple assignments, projects, priorities, and deadlines, ensuring timely completion.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Customer service-oriented with a commitment to meeting production needs.
- Initiative and ability to work independently to achieve company goals.
- Excellent time management skills, including the ability to plan work effectively to conserve materials and time.
- Some experience with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Adherence to "Best Practices" in the company's implemented Industrial Safety Programs.
Preferred:
- Skills in welding, fabrication, and similar metalworking.
- Active listening ability.
- Prior experience with ERP systems is a plus.
- Associates degree (or greater) in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology certificate, or equivalent military training.
- Five years of experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, specializing in maintenance and repair work on similar equipment or systems.
- Five years of experience in CNC setup/programming.
- Five years of experience using CAD-CAM systems for designing and machining parts.
